DMin/STM COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
BE 207/OT 11 - Yearning for God's Audience: Interpreting Job for Today
The book of Job is one of the most enigmatic and extraordinary books in the Bible. For centuries students have wrestled with the literary and theological diversities contained in Job and sought a coherent interpretation that could serve as the key for understanding the book. This course will join that community of learners by systematically applying the instructor's recently published attempt to interpret Job as a nascent form of apocalyptic literature. Among other things, this course will explore the history of interpreting Job, the importance of genre analysis for exegesis, the problem of Evil, and fresh approaches to preaching Job.(Biblical Exposition)
Timothy Johnson, Ph.D.
CD 207/PM 11 - Catechesis Reawakened
The rapid change of modern society and the shift towards post-Christian culture calls for an urgent rethinking of Christian formation and educational models for today. In this course we will look at catechesis in the ancient church (both content and methodology) in order to help the church develop models to for making disciples of Jesus Christ in the 21st Century. (Congregational Development)
Canon Wm. Blewett, Ph.D., SSC and Fr. Lee Nelson
EMT 206/EMT 11 - From the Womb to the Tomb: A Theological View of Issues in Bioethics
How should Christians view the issues surrounding the growing power our generation has over the beginning and end of human life? Many Christians are confused by the rapid developments in medical science. This course will deal with such issues as genetic engineering, in vitro fertilization, and euthanasia, but will put them in the necessary context of a theological understanding of human nature, health and sickness, suffering and Christian identity.
The Rev. Daniel Westberg, D. Phil.
CD 208/PM 19 - Building Congregations That Thrive
Our desire is to place in your hands the tools you need to transition congregations into vital and life giving centers of Christianity that are so compelling and attractive people will seek you out. The course is specifically designed to provide practical models for ministry that address the challenge of numerical, spiritual and financial growth within the Anglican tradition. This course will offer practical skill based training to address the challenge of revitalizing congregations. It will emphasize proven methods of transforming churches through leadership development, vision, evangelism, discipleship, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit.(Congregational Development)
