Curricular Overview and Program Requirements: Distance Learning Option

The Anglican Studies Certificate program by distance education is a 30-credit certificate comprised of five six-credit modules. Each module is three months in duration and includes a one-week residency with the instructor on the campus of Nashotah House. Residential weeks come near the beginning of each module in order to give students and instructors the opportunity for face-to-face interaction and fellowship. This residential week enhances the effectiveness of the on-line portion of the module, and it also gives the students an opportunity to participate fully in the worship and community life at Nashotah House. Residential weeks are scheduled a year in advance to allow for planning the time away from work and family.

Distance Learning Curriculum:

The Distance Learning curriculum consists of the following five six-credit modules:

• Anglican Heritage:  an introduction to Anglican church history and the Anglican theological, worship, and spiritual traditions – Summer (Petertide) term
• Ascetical Theology: Christian spirituality in the catholic and Anglican traditions – Fall (Michaelmas) term
• Historical Theology: history of Christian thought from the beginning of the church up until the present day, with special attention paid to the Anglican tradition – Winter (Epiphany) term
• The Theory and Practice of Ministry: Ministry in the Anglican context, including leadership, governance, polity, pastoral care, and homiletics – Spring (Easter) term
• Liturgics: the history of worship and liturgy and the practical elements of worship leadership —Summer (Petertide) term
