The Nashotah House Library is open to the general public from 8:30 A.M. to 4:20 P.M., Monday through Friday. Holiday hours vary. Nashotah House faculty and Nashotah House students have access to the library twenty-four hours every day.
The library collection--containing approximately 90,000 volumes and 300 current periodical subscriptions and offering electronic access to much additional material--is primarily theological, with substantial holdings in church history, philosophy, and material supporting other areas of the seminary's curriculum. Special collections have a number of significant items, including the Underwood Prayer Book Collection and archival material relating to the history of Nashotah House and the Episcopal Church in Wisconsin. In support of the seminary's course offerings in the English choral tradition, a core collection of compact discs is available, emphasizing plainsong, polyphony, chant, madrigals, choral, and organ works. Video and DVD collections feature films relating to the Bible, church history, monasticism, spirituality, and current issues in the church.
The library also provides print and electronic journal indexes and reference materials to assist users in finding information. Wireless network connectivity and a small, well-equipped computer lab support access to electronic resources. All stack areas, except for special collections, are open. Large, utilitarian study carrels are available for all students. The building, which is fully accessible to the handicapped, also houses a seminar room and a children's room with a sizeable collection of children's books.
Guests are welcome in the library during its regular hours. Those who wish to obtain borrowing privileges at the library may apply for a guestcard by filling out an application form and paying a fee. Currently enrolled students at Wisconsin institutions of higher learning may borrow materials from the library by showing their current student ID and filling out required forms during the library's regular hours.
Nashotah House is located between Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin. From Interstate 94, take exit 285 for Delafield. Follow Genesee Avenue (County Road C) north. Take a left onto Mission Avenue (there is a sign for Nashotah House on the corner.) Mission Avenue comes to an end at one of the entrances to Nashotah House on Mission Road.
