Citation Style Guides: Helps for Writers of Research Papers
The Student Handbook specifies the Turabian Manual for Writers of Research Papers, 7th ed. as the official style guide for papers presented in classes at Nashotah House. However, some instructors may request that you observe certain conventions contained in the SBL Handbook of Style--particularly with regard to scripture references (SBLHS section 8.2) and journal abbreviations (SBLHS 8.4.1 and 8.4.2).

Software for Composing Bibliography and Notes in Turabian Format
- The library staff recommends Zotero for formatting citations in Turabian style and for building a personal database of references that can be used to efficiently produce a bibliography on demand. Available as an add-on for users of the Firefox browser or as a standalone for users of other browsers and for Mac users, Zotero is widely used by Nashotah House students, staff, and faculty. Zotero is freeware.
- Using Zotero in Firefox (or in Chrome or Safari with one of the Zotero Standalone Connectors), one may download data directly into Zotero from many of the library's databases. When displaying the complete record for an item in one of the library's databases, a single click will save all the information Zotero needs to formulate correct bibliographic citations in Turabian style.
A Microsoft Word Replacement for Scholars
- Nota Bene Some scholars prefer to use Nota Bene for word-processing because it is specifically designed with the needs of scholars in mind: citation creation and paper formatting, personal database, and other features are integrated into the Nota Bene software. With the student discount, the full scholar's version of Nota Bene may be purchased for $249 ($299 for added non-English language support).
