Requiem Mass for Bishop Salmon

A requiem mass will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 8:00 am to 9:00 am in the Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin to celebrate the life of The Rt. Rev. Edward L. Salmon, Jr., 13th Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina and 19th Dean and President of Nashotah House. Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord George Carey, will be preaching.

Retired Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord George Carey, to Visit Nashotah House

Nashotah House is honored to host the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey of Clifton,  September 27-30, 2016. Lord Carey will be participating in the Community Retreat, featured speaker for Convocation, in addition to preaching at Bishop Salmon's requiem mass.

 

George Carey was born in 1935 in the East End of London, and by age twenty he had decided he wanted to be ordained as a minister into the Church of England. After graduating from London College of Divinity and King’s College London he served as a curate in Islington, London. During this time he went on to research the early origins of Christian ministry. He then taught at two Colleges before becoming a parish priest at St.Nicholas’ Durham in England. In 1982 he became Principal of Trinity Theological College in Bristol and, in 1987, Bishop of Bath and Wells. In 1991 he was invited to take up the post of 103rd Archbishop of Canterbury to serve 80 million Anglicans around the world until his retirement in 2002.

Following his retirement George Carey was made a life peer as ‘Lord Carey of Clifton’. Lord Carey is Presentation Fellow of King’s College London, Fellow of Christ’s University College, Canterbury and Fellow of the Library of Congress. He is the recipient of some 12 Honorary Doctorates and author of 14 books. He is a Vice President of Tearfund, a Relief Agency and Patrons of The Foundation of Relief and Reconcilation in the Middle East, which supports the work of Canon Andrew White. Lord Carey is also Chair and co-Founder of the World Faiths Development Dialogue, a not-for-profit organization working at the intersection of religion and global development.

Nashotah House Hosts The Right Reverend Dean Elliott Wolfe, D.D. as Guest Preacher September 8th

The Right Reverend Dean Elliott Wolfe, D.D. visited Nashotah House on Thursday, September 8th as guest preacher for Evening Prayer and Eucharist.  Bishop Wolfe has served as the Ninth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas since 2004.  He is a Vice President of the House of Bishops, Chair of the House of Bishops Planning Committee, delegate to the World Council of Churches, and member of the Presiding Bishop’s Council of Advice, the Joint Committee for Planning and Arrangements for General Convention, and the Pastoral Development Committee.  
 
 
Over the past decade he has focused on innovative diocesan leadership and the creative use of parish resources.  He initiated an ambitious plan to expand local education for lay and clergy leaders, which resulted in the creation of the Bishop Kemper School for Ministry, a unique collaboration of the Dioceses of Kansas, West Missouri, Nebraska and Western Kansas.  He also worked to strengthen youth and campus ministries throughout the diocese.

New Rector Chosen at Saint Augustine's Church

The Reverend Meredyth Albright ('12) has accepted the position of rector for Saint Augustine's Church in Rhinelander, WI. Mother Albright was ordained into the Sacred Order of Deacons in 2011 and Sacred Order of Priests in 2012 after receiving a Masters of Divinity from Nashotah House. Nashotah House Hires New Staff

Nashotah House is pleased to announce the hiring of two new employees to fill the recruitment needs of the seminary. With these two positions, Nashotah House will have an expanded presence in the greater church community.
 
Carolyn Bartkus Mrs. Carolyn Bartkus has recently accepted the position of Director of Church Relations and Alumni Communities. In her new position, Carolyn will assist in the development and implementation of church relations activities, student recruitment, and the new Alumni Communities program. Carolyn is a recent and enthusiastic graduate of Nashotah House. She received her degree, a Master of Theological Studies, in May 2016.  In addition to her studies, Carolyn has led a variety of ministry programs for the past 20 years. As an experienced leader, she has recruited, trained, and mentored other leaders; developed shared community service programs; and built and cultivated relationships to effectively engage colleagues, church members, and clergy to a shared vision.
 
 
 
Jon Jenkins
 
The Rev. Dr. Jon C. Jenkins joins Nashotah House as a recruiter to the Anglican Church in North America. Fr. Jon is a dedicated alumnus of Nashotah House. He received his Master of Divinity degree with the class of 2006 and his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2013. In his 10 years of ordained ministry he has worked within the Church and the alumni network to promote the interests of Nashotah House. Fr. Jon is an experienced ministry leader and communicator. As a student recruiter, Fr. Jon will assist in the development and implementation of church relations activities for dioceses and parishes within the Anglican Church of North America with the ultimate goal of recruiting students. He will also assist with regional meetings as a link to the Anglican alumni in the area.
