A Word from the President

Dear Alumni of the House,

I distinctly remember the first time I saw St. Mary’s Chapel. It was the middle of winter, and I was visiting some family members in Milwaukee during my final year of college. One afternoon I decided to drive over to Lake Country and check out the seminary. The cloister was covered in snow – as usual – and the spire stood out against the grey sky as a beacon of truth, beauty, and goodness. It immediately felt like the place I was meant to be. Having been raised in a diocese with many alumni of the House, Nashotah had been on my radar for a long time. In my head it was going to be a mystical place like Narnia, but better because it was Anglo-Catholic.

Of course, after my Junior year a lot of that mystical idealism was worn away by the reality of seminary life, with all of its ups and downs. But the thrill never faded completely. When we spent a few days of our family vacation at Nashotah House last summer, I still felt that wonderful mixture of awe and comfort which is so familiar to many of us. Nashotah House will always be a home for me, but it is also a “thin place” where transcendent mysteries can still be discovered and enjoyed. Though we serve in vastly different contexts and in many different jurisdictions, all alumni can unite around this shared love for the place which has so deeply formed us, and in which we have encountered the Lord Jesus Christ.

As I take up the mantle as President of our Alumni Association, Floreat Nashotah, I would like to thank Fr. Roy Allison (’12) for his service this past year, as well as the faculty and staff of the seminary for their continued support of all Sons and Daughters of the House. Fr. David Bumsted (’13) has graciously agreed to serve alongside me as Vice President. There are many opportunities for alumni to visit the House in the coming months, and I am delighted to notify you of next year’s Alumni Day which will be held on May 20, 2026.

We live in confusing and challenging times, but our beloved seminary continues to boldly proclaim the fullness of the faith we have received from Christ and the Apostles. I believe Nashotah House has entered a joyful new phase of growth and revitalization. Please join me in continuing to support the House through prayer, financial contributions, and community building.

Please always feel free to contact me or Fr. Bumsted with any questions, suggestions, concerns, or the like.

Floreat Nashotah!
