St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School seeks Assistant Chaplain to begin August 2018.

St. Andrew's-Sewanee School (www.sasweb.org) seeks an Assistant Chaplain with a commitment to boarding and day school education in an Episcopal environment that cultivates creativity, celebrates individuality, rejoices in the natural world, and values grace and forgiveness. This is 10-month, fulltime position and reports to the Head of School.

The Assistant Chaplain’s primary responsibility is to partner with the Chaplain for the oversight of the spiritual life of the school.

The Assistant Chaplain will:

  • Help lead the liturgical life of the community
  • Provide pastoral care for students, faculty, staff, and parents
  • Inspire and coordinate student participation in worship
  • Be responsible for the care and use of the school’s historic St. Andrew’s Chapel
  • Teach an academic religion course
  • Help coordinate campus service program
  • Orient new students and faculty to the liturgy of the Episcopal Church
  • Participate in campus life
  • Help guide the school in maintaining and communicating its Episcopal identity
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the Head of School

As with all faculty members, the Assistant Chaplain serves as a student advisor, is part of a weekend team, and helps plan and execute class trips, retreats, and special events throughout the year. Based on the individual’s talents, interests, and gifts, responsibilities may also include leading afternoon programs and/or sponsoring student clubs.

Qualifications – Applicants must be ordained as priests in the Episcopal Church. Candidates will be expected to have an undergraduate and/or advanced degree and experience in working with adolescents. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience in adolescent counseling, working or living in a boarding school, community service, and/or coaching.

Compensation – Salary is dependent on education and experience. Benefits include a tuition remission plan, health and dental insurance, worker’s compensation, short-term and long-term disability, group life insurance, participation in the Church Pension Fund, and eligibility for grants for professional enrichment and continuing education.

SAS is a co-ed, independent, Episcopal, boarding and day school serving 250 students in grades six through twelve located in Sewanee, Tenn.
