Discernment Retreats  (watch video)

Answering the call to seminary doesn't have to feel like applying to grad school.

Are you seeking the next step God has for your life?  We invite you to visit Nashotah House for a self-directed DISCERNMENT RETREAT, where the rhythm of our life community offers a perfect balance of prayer, solitude, and fellowship.  Whether or not you decide to attend seminary or if advanced academic study is for you, Nashotah House is a special place for discerning God's call on your life and inspires all who visit.  Immerse yourself in a community that flows out of twice-daily worship and invites Christ's presence in our daily shared Eucharist.  Practice what it means to imitate Christ, coming away from the world for the sake of the world.  Experience a diverse community gathered with a common desire to live out the faith once received, love one another, and preach the gospel to the ends of the earth.

Individual Visits

Whether you are contemplating becoming a residential or hybrid-distance student at Nashotah House, then you are warmly encouraged to visit our campus. Those applying for entry into a residential program are required to visit campus (with spouse, if married) for an admissions interview prior to acceptance. During a prospective student visit, guest housing, and breakfast and lunch are provided by the House on campus in the James Lloyd Breck Refectory. Prior to your visit, our Admissions Office will work with you to plan a schedule enabling you (and your spouse) to use your time on campus most fruitfully. Every prospective student is hosted by a current residential student(s) who will guide you through a day's experience of our life together. Experience Nashotah - October 8-9, 2020

Notice: Due to safety protocols and restrictions that have been put in place to maintain the health and wellbeing of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Seminary has decided to postpone Experience Nashotah, originally scheduled for October 8-9, 2020. We hold (nimbly) to the hope of hosting Experience Nashotah in Spring, April 22-23, 2021. Please accept our sincere apologies for any difficulty and/or inconvenience that this decision may have caused you. We are deeply saddened to postpone the event, as the best way to experience the life and culture of the House is in person, alongside members of our campus community.

With this in mind, we would be delighted to receive you as a prospective student visitor on an individual basis. You would be given the same opportunity to join us in twice daily worship, meet our current students and faculty, share in mealtimes with the student body, and attend classes. Use the general contact form to request a indivdual visit and you will be contacted shortly.

More About Experience Nashotah: Experience Nashotah provides you and other prospective students with an opportunity to reflect and connect with each other while experiencing a place where tradition meets preparation and formation. We recommend you arrive on Wednesday evening, October 7 and depart Saturday morning, October 10.

We invite you to attend a two-day feast of worship, classroom experience, private reflection, and candid discussion with students, faculty and staff.

Offered twice each year, in the Fall and the SpringExperience Nashotah is your opportunity to taste and see what life is like at Nashotah House, giving you a real introduction to our community, its vibrant life and its living tradition. The itinerary includes:

  • Worship twice daily in the historic Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin;
  • Sitting in on classes;
  • Meeting our Deans, faculty, and staff;
  • Spending time with our students;
  • Discussing personal discernment issues with our faculty in a small group setting;
  • Scheduling an Admissions interview*

Much of your time during Experience Nashotah will be an immersion in the worship, study and life pattern of our students.  In your meetings with faculty, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues critical to planning your seminary education.  There will also be plenty of time for you to enjoy the beauty of our campus and the companionship of our faculty and students.

We recommend that EN participants arrive Wednesday (October 7) between 3:00-7:00pm and depart at their leisure on Saturday morning. Other than the optional 7:45am Morning Prayer and Said Eucharist on Saturday morning, there will be no scheduled events on Saturday, October 10.

Your only cost for attending Experience Nashotah is your own travel expenses to and from the campus. Nashotah House will provide you (and your spouse, if applicable) three nights’ lodging and all meals, breakfast on Thursday through breakfast on Saturday.

NOTE: Nashotah House is a family friendly community, however, parents are encouraged to attend Experience Nashotah without children in order to be fully present for the program itinerary.

*If you intend to have an official admissions interview during your visit, you will need to have submitted your portion of the Admissions Application prior to your visit.
